In the beginning of the 20th century a self-made and extremely hardworking businessman
acted in the vicinity of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. He was Mr. Brynolf
Grönmark who ferociously attained representations for various products. The
company bearing his name was founded in 1914. In those days, Helsinki phone
numbers only consisted of three digits and most extraordinary products were
traded. Grönmark’s portfolio has included locomotive engines, rubber, straps made
of camel hair, silencers, steam engines, pumps, scales, filters, calendars,
laboratory equipment, a few sewing machines and screens for paper machines.
The present Managing Director Petri Grandell is the third generation representative of his
family in the company. Brynolf Grönmark engaged Petri's grandfather Gunnar
Grandell as sales engineer in 1951. ”Grandfather became famous for not having a
driver’s license. So the airedale worked the whole of Finland riding with
cabdriver Björkman from Kauniainen,” Petri laughs.
Brynolf Grönmark passed away in 1960 where after Gunnar Grandell bought the majority of shares
in the company. Petri’s father Karl-Erik Grandell joined the company around the
same time. The representation of Merkel gaskets was acquired in the 1960’s.
Business was slow in the beginning but there seemed to be a demand for viable
sealing solutions. Grönmark took on one salesman after another – the new
sealing department was born, including all necessary accessories!
Activities were pinpointed to the paper and pulp industries in the 1980’s. New products
and working schemes resulted in an industrial department to serve customers in
the process industry.
Grönmark is confident about the future. Decades of experience of Finnish industry, technical know-how and support from the principals guarantee that Grönmark will always offer economical and high
quality products and service systems.
